Position Summary:

Cleaning, feeding, watering and general husbandry of all animals (primarily farm animals, dogs, cats, and rodents) within the TRACSS Unit (the non-client animal facility) at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Responsible for maintaining clean facilities. Responsible for providing support services involving animals for teaching, research and continuing education programs and other technical services as needed.

Required Qualifications:

Prior experience and knowledge providing daily care for and handling animals; knowledge of health care and husbandry procedures for animals; good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to follow detailed procedures and document activities; must be willing and able to provide care for animals during weather related closings and occasional holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer someone who is able to bleed, anesthetize, restrain, and give oral, I.V., I.M., S.C., and I.P. medications to animals; knowledge and experience in the care of aquatic species. AALAS Certification as AALAS technician and/or AALAS technologist. BS Animal Science or related field or equivalent training and experience.

Must be available to work weekends and on an as-needed basis when an emergency arises. Must have a driver’s license check and be able to operate a state vehicle, including trailers. This position is considered essential and must report to work during emergency and inclement weather closings.
