Position Summary:

The Department of Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education seeks an instructor in agricultural education. This is a 12-month restricted appointment. The successful candidate will join a team of teaching and learning faculty with an emphasis on agricultural education. We are seeking an individual who can contribute by providing teaching and outreach efforts focused on modern agricultural science education. Specifically, this person will work with the faculty team to serve school-based agricultural education, cooperative extension, and other partners in delivering modern agricultural education programs.

The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher and contribute to agricultural education outreach initiatives.

Position Responsibilities
• Teach graduate and undergraduate courses.
• Assist with agricultural education outreach activities.
• Work with Virginia agriculture teachers.
• Advise the Collegiate FFA Chapter.

Required Qualifications:

• An earned doctorate in agricultural education, science education in the context of agricultural education, or a closely related field.
• Three or more years of successful secondary teaching experience.
• Ability to work with constituents and a student body from diverse backgrounds and demonstrate a commitment and sensitivity to issues of diversity in the campus community.
• Demonstrated command of concepts and theories associated with teaching and learning in agricultural education contexts.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as expertise in utilizing technology in communication.
• Perform as a team member in a department that includes agricultural, leadership, and community education programs that work in concert to achieve the goals of the unit.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three or more years of successful secondary agricultural teaching experience.
• Demonstrated skill in teacher education and continued professional education.
• Experience with exceptional learner populations.
• Experience with extension education.
• Demonstrated teaching expertise.
