Position Summary:

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works with a multidisciplinary team to assess, diagnose, and treat students referred for psychiatric evaluation. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works with Board-certified Psychiatrists and Nurse Practitioners as well as with the counseling professionals to provide timely and professional care to students.
Occasional travel may be necessary to attend seminars, continuing education and professional development opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Nursing; Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Board Certified or eligible; Licensed or qualified to apply for advance practice nursing license with prescriptive authority in Virginia.

Practitioner training program with authority to prescribe medication.

National certification and license to practice as a nurse practitioner in the commonwealth of Virginia.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in working with young adults

Interest in working with mental health professionals in training, i.e., medical students, predoctoral interns in psychology and counseling

Supervisory experience with nursing staff

The Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center invites applications for a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. This is a regular full-time academic year (11-month) professional faculty appointment at our Blacksburg campus.
