Position Summary:

Virginia Tech Housing & Residence Life and its University partners are committed to students actively engaging in their learning environments. The Residential Learning Coordinator (RLC)/Student Life Coordinator (SLC) is a critical partner in the implementation of the student life curriculum model. The primary charge for RLCs/SLCs is the execution of learning outcomes centered on the Virginia Tech Student Affairs Aspirations for Student Learning. As such, all Coordinators must be dedicated to creating a community that commits to unwavering curiosity, pursues self-understanding and integrity, practices civility, prepares others for a life of courageous leadership, and embraces the University’s motto “Ut Prosim” as a way of life.
Coordinators must also be committed to self-development as well as the development of others; to the mission and identity of the community; and the staff team with which they work. We are looking for individuals who can work in a highly collaborative environment to positively impact student lives outside of the traditional classroom.
Coordinators are responsible for coordinating all building and community aspects of residential life; creating and nurturing a student community oriented towards the academic and social development of residents; working with learning partners to implement and facilitate a student life curriculum that focuses on individual student connections, learning, supportive mentoring, and engaging difference in thoughtful ways; supervising paraprofessional staff that are hired, trained, supervised, and evaluated by the Coordinator; and performing administrative duties congruent with maintaining community standards, occupancy management, and a safe and secure environment.

Required Qualifications:

-Master’s degree in college student affairs or related field conferred by time of appointment to position.
-The successful candidate should also demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse student body and foster sensitivity to diversity issues in the University community.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Some full-time work experience in residence life or operations;
-Staff supervision experience;
-Knowledge of or experience with structured first-year programs or other special interest programs;
-Experience with training and teaching.
