Position Summary:

The Citation Appeals Coordinator provides parking services support to employees, students, and visitors of the Virginia Tech community. This position is the first point of contact for Virginia Tech parking violations handled both in person and via phone. The position is responsible for evaluating the violation and available information and policies and making void/appeal decisions in strict compliance with the office procedural manual and policy. The individual must have strong customer service skills and be a subject matter expert in order to serve a diverse and often disgruntled group of customers. This will require explaining the first and second level appeal process, and parking rules and regulations of Virginia Tech Campus to customers; reading and making a ruling on all first level appeals; scheduling and coordinating second level appeal hearings. May work overtime, weekends, and special events as needed in various weather conditions.

Required Qualifications:

- Strong customer service experience in a high demand/large volume environment.
- Experience working with and explaining complex rules and regulations.
- Data entry and database experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse and often disgruntled clientele and provide accurate, detail oriented results.
- Ability to learn quickly and comprehensively.
- Ability to perform detailed work in a fast paced stressful environment.
- Position requires the ability to move and handle up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to perform repetitive motion tasks, sitting, and standing for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Demonstrated experience dealing with confidential and sensitive matters.
- Prior appeals handling experience
- Working knowledge of the University’s parking rules and regulations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of University Banner System.
- Previous experience working in a in higher education or similar environment.
