Position Summary:

Test computer applications for functionality, interoperability, security and usability. Maintain and enhance testing tools and environment on Linux, Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Assist with deployment of new and upgraded Secure Identity Services (SIS) products and services by working with developers and consumers to communicate needs and document outcomes. Create and maintain automated tests using departmentally-approved tools and procedures. Update appropriate online documentation on websites and knowledge-sharing tools. Maintain computer hardware and software used for testing in support of all SIS units. Includes troubleshooting hardware and software problems, configuration, patching, operating system installation and upgrades. Provide desktop and mobile support for SIS units as needed, including configuring laptops and mobile devices for demonstrations. Participate in on-campus help sessions for SIS-supported systems and services as necessary, including onsite visits to clients experiencing difficulties.

Required Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
-Experience developing software using Java. -Practical experience and knowledge of Linux, Windows, or Mac OS platforms including installation of operating systems and software.
-Knowledge of emerging web technologies and trends.
-Experience using version control systems.
-Experience in technical support.
-Creative problem-solving skills.
-Excellent technical communication skills.
-Ability to develop technical solutions based on functional requirements.
-Demonstrated ability to work independently and to meet deadlines for completing assigned tasks.
-Experience with automated testing tools.
-Excellent communication skills.
-Good organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
-Oracle Java SE 8 Certification and ASTQB Tester Foundation Certification required or obtain within 12 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Knowledge of proper testing practices.
-Knowledge of testing tools such as TestNG and Selenium.
-Knowledge of usability practices; experience with Linux and Mac O/S; experience with LDAP and other directory query tools; experience with digital certificates.
-Experience with authorization/authentication systems.
-Experience with Oracle databases, PL/SQL queries.
-Experience with Windows Active Directory and Exchange administration.
-Experience with Content Management Systems.
-Experience using Service Now.
-Experience testing software on multiple hardware and software platforms.
-Experience with VM software such as VMWare or VirtualBox.
-Extensive programming experience using Java and/or .Net, Unix scripting.
-Experience with Unix scripting.
-Experience using HTML and CSS tools to design, manage, and maintain websites. Interest in learning about new technologies, operating systems, programing languages, and hardware and software packages.
-Demonstrated understanding of Virginia Tech web accessibility guidelines and best practices
