Position Summary:

The Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership (MAAP) is seeking qualified applicants with significant experience in engineering and/or aviation disciplines relevant to Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) to serve as Test Engineers or Safety Officers in support of UAS flight and ground testing at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) designated UAS Test Site. These roles facilitate the preparation and execution of UAS testing by serving as technical and/or operational experts in their field, conducting tests, and reporting test results. Successful applicants will be able to support a diverse array of tasks related to UAS testing, with preference given to candidates that have both engineering and aviation experience.
The Test Engineer or Safety Officer must be a self motivated team player that can take on and effectively execute a broad set of tasks.
Additional duties that may be assigned to the incumbent (depending upon qualifications) include:
• Preparation of test plans to meet customer requirements and with respect to safety, regulatory, and technological considerations.
• Management of aircraft configuration and airworthiness prior to and during flight testing.
• Executes test plans and provides on-site operations and safety management of tests including data collection.
• Analysis of test data and production of test reports that provide technical details of the tests scope, method, and results.
• Operation of aircraft and supporting test equipment during test execution.
• Support for proposal development by contributing to technical proposals write-ups.
• Participation in training, demonstrations, and educational activities.
• Crewmember for UAS operations.

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in engineering or aviation or an exception can be made for a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, aviation, or related technical field with significant relevant experience.
• Experience with UAS operations, aircraft flight testing, or aviation operations
• Good communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

FAA Remote Pilot-in-Command Certificate
• Demonstrated UAS experience
FAA Private Pilot’s license or greater
• Master’s degree in engineering or aviation
• Extensive knowledge of aviation regulations, procedures, and/or safety processes
• RF experience with radio/antenna design, selection, and operation
• Computer hardware, software, and networking configuration experience
• Programming (CAD, Python, Matlab, etc) experience
UAS design and construction experience
• Test planning and execution experience
• Proficient RC flying skills
