About Virginia Tech:

Virginia Tech is a public land-grant university, committed to teaching and learning, research, and outreach to the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world. Building on its motto of Ut Prosim (that I may serve), Virginia Tech is dedicated to InclusiveVT—serving in the spirit of community, diversity, and excellence. We seek candidates who adopt and practice the Principles of Community, which are fundamental to our on-going efforts to increase access and inclusion, and to create a community that nurtures learning and growth for all of its members. Virginia Tech actively seeks a broad spectrum of candidates to join our community in preparing leaders for the world.

Position Summary:

The VMCVM is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled individual to utilize a robust food animal case load to provide excellence in clinical experiential learning while contributing to scholarly activities that benefit the agriculture and veterinary community. The PMM caseload is approximately 55,000 animals/year with 70% beef (cow-calf and stocker) 25% dairy and 5% small ruminants/porcine. The majority of cases are evaluated in an ambulatory setting with about 300 animals hospitalized in the VTH/year. The mission of the service is to promote excellence in service, teaching, and scholarship, while allowing individual faculty members the opportunity to successfully pursue specific career goals, particularly in research.

Primary job responsibilities will be participation in the clinical PMM service, including clinical instruction and shared participation in emergency coverage, and development of an extramurally-funded research program. Other duties include delivery of didactic and laboratory instruction of pre-clinical students. Contributions to the college’s research and scholarship mission are expected to occupy a minimum of 30% of the faculty assignment. An ideal opportunity exists to establish a research program in conjunction with a university-wide initiative in the area of global systems science, with particular emphasis on population health and epidemiology. The position may have a limited appointment in Virginia Cooperative Extension to deliver food animal extension in the Commonwealth.
