Position Summary:

Virginia Tech’s Department of Entomology seeks a 1500-hour wage, Education Support Specialist II position in the area of pesticide safety extension education. This is a part-time, twelve-month restricted staff position based on campus at Virginia Tech, a land-grant university in the scenic New River Valley of Virginia.

The successful candidate will be an outgoing individual who will contribute to innovative curricula in Extension pesticide safety education. The incumbent will support the mission of the land-grant university by participating in Extension and engaging local, state, and regional stakeholders. The individual will have experience in Extension education, pesticide safety education. Knowledge of entomology and pesticide management, pesticide chemistry, environmental and non-target protection, and practices is required. Program clients in Virginia and regionally include prospective and current certified applicators as well as many non-certified pesticide users (ex. farm workers, consumers, youth, and volunteers).

Required Qualifications:

BS in agriculture or life science related fields and/or combination of education and practical experience; Pest management and/or Extension experience; Excellent organizational, administrative and communication skills; Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds; Detail-oriented; Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; Ability to travel and work some evenings and weekend; Practical work experience in agriculture, pesticide application, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

MS in pest management sciences.
