Position Summary:

The Child Care Center Lead Teacher conducts a minimum of one 3-hour play session daily (M-F 8:30-11:30am, 11:30am-2:30pm, 2:30-6:00pm) for the Virginia Tech Graduate School Child Care Center, Little Hokie Hangout (LHH). Note: the session days and times are flexible. The LHH is a parent-run cooperative playgroup for children between the ages of 2 and 5 with a paid 50% on-site program director. The program operates at the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church and has a capacity of 12 children at any one time. Each session is three hours with sessions offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening.
The Lead Teacher works collaboratively with the Childcare Coordinator, Program Director, and student-parent aides to support the mission of the program as well as facilitating daily programming and activities. The Lead Teacher must study and have a thorough knowledge of the LHH Employee Handbook within 7 days of hiring.

Required Qualifications:

-Knowledge of and experience in early childhood programs, such as experience in child care, child development, or early childhood education.
- Demonstrated ability to perform administrative tasks.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, and ability teach effectively and build relationships in a learning community.
- Ability to work collaboratively in curriculum planning and implementation.
- Ability to assist in documentation of learning experiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Coursework towards certificate or degree in child development, childcare administration, early education, or related field, or significant supervised programmatic experience.
- Strong background in early childhood and cooperative childcare programs.
- Comprehensive understanding of state licensing and accreditation standards that affect programming, enrollment policies, health and safety of children and teachers, interactions between children and adults, and classroom environments.
- CPR/first-aid certified. (This can be handled upon hiring, but will require extra time out of the classroom)
- MAT/EMAT/PMAT certification.
- Teaching experience at any level.
