Position Summary:

The Department of Human Development and Family Science invites applications for an academic year, tenure track Associate Professor or advanced Assistant Professor in the Marriage and Family Therapy area. Applicants should have expertise in trauma or addiction, particularly as they relate to families. Opportunities are available to interact with faculty in Virginia Tech’s transdisciplinary initiatives focused on Adaptive Brain and Behavior as well as Equity and Social Disparity in the Human Condition. The starting date is August 10, 2018. Review of applications will begin November 20, 2017 and will continue until a suitable candidate is appointed.

Primary responsibilities of the position will be to:
-maintain a program of externally funded research and scholarly publications;
-teach graduate and undergraduate courses, including clinical supervision. The standard teaching load is two courses for each of the two semesters in the academic year;
-advise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including directing doctoral dissertations;
- provide service to the MFT program, as well as department, college, and university committees;
-engage those in the community and provide professional service to the field;
-occasional travel to attend professional conferences and other professional events.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have:
-A doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy or a related discipline at the time of appointment;
-Scholarly productivity and an active program of research related to trauma or addiction in the context of families, as well as a record of securing, or strong potential to secure, external funding;
-Experience with undergraduate and graduate teaching, as well as experience advising master’s theses and/or doctoral dissertations.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Designation as an AAMFT Clinical Fellow and AAMFT Approved Supervisor is strongly preferred, as is the ability to obtain licensure as an MFT in Virginia.
-Demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary research and/or teaching in areas that align with Virginia Tech’s university-wide, multi-disciplinary initiative focused on Adaptive Brain and Behavior
