Position Summary:

The Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech (www.cs.vt.edu) seeks applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor position. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in computer science or related field at the time of appointment and a rank-appropriate record of scholarship and collaboration in computing research, broadly defined. The successful candidate will have a split commitment: half to the teaching and curriculum development activities of the department, and half in collaboration with Virginia Tech’s Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies group (TLOS), which is part of part of Virginia Tech’s Division of Information Technology. The TLOS aspect of the position will contribute to initiatives in design thinking and distance education. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in CS higher education teaching and CS education research, with a particular emphasis on human-computer interaction. Successful candidates should give evidence of sensitivity to issues of diversity in the campus community.

Required Qualifications:

-An earned Ph.D. in computer science or a closely related field.
-Ability to contribute to the department’s teaching mission, at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
-Record of significant accomplishments in CS research, e.g., publications.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience in higher education instructional activities with strong promise for being a leader in the instructional mission.
-A record of scholarly accomplishments in the area of pedagogy and tools and approaches for teaching and learning.
-Demonstrated interest in collaborative research with existing CS departmental research activity in CS education, and with TLOS initiatives in design thinking and distance education.
-Contributions to improving the diversity of the discipline, and experience in working effectively with a diverse student population.
