Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Business Operations, the human resources coordinator serves as a key member of the Business Center and is primarily responsible for all Human Resources related tasks for the Chemistry Department. Additionally, the position is responsible for coordination, execution and file retention of all pre-and post-hire activities, such as completing paperwork, confirming work eligibility, visa processes, and systems access; responsible for organizing, coordinating, and auditing employee files; semi-monthly wage payroll; summer, winter, and overload compensation; graduate stipends; and other reports.

Required Qualifications:

- Experience providing human resources support in a professional office environment.
- Experience utilizing various software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic mail.
- Knowledge of procurement and business processes such as analyzing and reconciling accounts, creating reports and performing financial calculations using Excel spreadsheets.
- Ability to work with complex data, create formulas, and import and export data.
- Ability to analyze financial data, prepare related reports, problem solve and have focused attention to detail.
- Must be able to provide a high level of customer service, work on complex tasks, work confidentiality on sensitive issues and meet deadlines in a high pace academic setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work comfortably with all individuals in a diverse multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Bachelors or Associates degree in Business or related field.
- Experience in higher education, specifically in academic departments and/or research.
- Experience providing administrative support for senior executives.
- Experience with Banner, PeopleAdmin, Timeclock plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Virginia Tech policies and procedures as it relates to human resources.
