Position Summary:

The Executive Assistant performs a wide variety of activities required to provide exceptional administrative assistance to the Interim Vice President for Human Resources. Primary responsibilities include management of the VP’s schedule, making travel arrangements, and preparation for meetings and presentations ensuring that the Office of the Interim Vice President for Human Resources operates in an informed and effective manner. This position responds to inquiries based on broad knowledge of the university, screens and routes calls and correspondence to appropriate senior HR leadership, manages and coordinates all incoming and outgoing correspondence and phone calls, serves as an effective liaison with on and off campus contacts and conducts the activities of the office in a professional, organized, and efficient manner, handling confidential and sensitive matters with utmost discretion. Excellent judgment and decision-making skills must be used to ensure the integrity and professionalism of the Office of Interim Vice President for Human Resources.

Required Qualifications:

- Significant experience providing executive level management administrative support in an academic or professional office environment.
- Proficient in general computer skills such as word processing, email and calendar management.
- Experience such as drafting and editing correspondence, reports, and other documents in a professional and efficient manner.
- Proficient with current office software such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must be highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team atmosphere, demonstrate discretion in working with confidential information and use sound judgment in decision making.
- Professional communication skills and ability to interact effectively with all individuals in a diverse multicultural environment.
- Strong proof reading skills and ability to prepare error free documentation and correspondence in a professional and timely manner.
- Demonstrated commitment to the Virginia Tech Principles of Community.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience working in higher education providing administrative support for an executive or senior management level.
- Considerable knowledge of university organizational structure, policies and procedures.
- Experience with travel arrangement and reimbursement.
- Certified Administrative Professional or equivalent.
