Position Summary:

Student Affairs Communications is looking for a part time administrative professional to join our creative and dynamic group. This position provides administrative and event support for the Executive Director of Communications and IT and Operations Manager. Duties include varied administrative and fiscal operations for both the Communications and Information Technology departments, including meeting scheduling and planning, event support, wage payroll processing, purchasing activities, and other administrative functions. Work on special projects as assigned. Frequent interaction with a diverse group of constituents including students, faculty and staff, Hokie families and alumni.

Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience in the following areas:
• Providing administrative support in a professional office environment;
• Performing fiscal operations, including purchasing, payroll administration, and reconciliations.
• Providing event support for large functions.
• Handling confidential information.
Other requirements:
• Proficiency in Office 365/MicroSoft Office (specifically Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people in a professional manner.
• Ability to compose, proofread, and edit office correspondence and reports.
• Ability to work independently with little supervision, making decisions within prescribed guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Virginia Tech or Commonwealth of Virginia purchasing and/or human resources policies and processes.
• Experience using SharePoint and Qualtrics software.
• Previous experience in an academic or higher education setting.
