Position Summary:

The Department of English at Virginia Tech seeks applications and nominations for the Director of Composition, research specialization open. The faculty appointment will be with tenure at the Associate Professor level. Job expectations include directing the first-year writing program, maintaining a strong, nationally visible research agenda, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and participating in university and professional service. The position comes with a 1/1 teaching load.

Required Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in rhetoric and composition or related field, an academic record commensurate with an appointment at the rank of associate professor at a leading research institution, experience with writing program administration, outstanding teaching, and ability to foster diversity in the curriculum and department.

Preferred Qualifications:

Specialization in second language writing theory and pedagogy, multilingual writing theory and pedagogy, literacy studies, WAC/WID, or composition theory and history; experience working with, teaching, and/or mentoring diverse groups; experience and success teaching and advising graduate students; and experience with or interest in interdisciplinary collaborations.
