Position Summary:

The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) in the Pamplin College of Business, Virginia Tech, invites applications and nominations for a dynamic hospitality and/or tourism scholar in hospitality and tourism management entrepreneurship and innovation. The position is for advanced Assistant, Associate, or Full and will begin August 2018. This position is in support of the second theme of the Pamplin College of Business Strategic Plan which focuses on three themes: (1) business intelligence, (2) innovation through entrepreneurship, and (3) international business. We encourage candidates, in their letters of application, to articulate specifically how their research will contribute to innovation through entrepreneurship.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. courses offered by the Hospitality and Tourism Management Department as assigned by the Department Head, to pursue a program of research leading to publication in top-tier academic journals in Hospitality and Tourism Management and general business fields, to advise graduate students, and to serve on Department, College, and University committees as well as professional and outreach activities as appropriate to the faculty member’s interests and rank.

The HTM Department is one of six Departments in the Pamplin College of Business. We aspire to be the nation’s premier business education and management leadership program in hospitality. We were recently ranked as the #2 HTM program in the US and #6 program in the world by QS TopUniversities ( The Department offers an AACSB accredited BS in Business with a major in Hospitality and Tourism Management, as well as AACSB accredited MSBA and Ph.D. in Business with concentrations in Hospitality and Tourism Management. Currently, there are approximately 275 undergraduates, 20 masters, and 12 Ph.D. students in the program. See for more information.

Required Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in hospitality and tourism management or a field of business and exemplary teaching and research record are required for the position. The required qualifications at the Assistant Professor rank include the candidate’s potential for research and teaching excellence in Hospitality and Tourism Entrepreneurship and Innovation related areas. Appointment at the Associate Professor level further requires a demonstrated body of teaching and research excellence and growing national and international reputation. Appointment at the rank of Full Professor requires a well-established international reputation for research leadership in Hospitality and Tourism Entrepreneurship and Innovation related areas. The ability and desire to work effectively in a collegial, dynamic environment is required across ranks.

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional experience in hospitality and/or tourism management, solid fit with the HTM and Pamplin visions and engagement with industry and or professional organizations.
