Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, the Assistant Vice President – Operations for the Division of Human Resources (AVPO) serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and provides leadership and effective management of the administrative and operational functions in support of the Division of Human Resources. The AVPO directs the operational units including budgeting and fiscal operations, facilities management, administrative operations, resource and space allocation, information technology, systems administration and technology support, and strategic communications. Acts as a liaison to university-wide initiatives and committees for operational matters.

Description of Duties:
- Oversees the hiring, orientation, and training of administrative professional and staff employees within HR operations areas.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures in support of the division of Human Resources operations and objectives.
- Oversees annual budget for the division, following university policies and procedures.
- Oversees HR Operations in connection with budgetary, personnel, purchasing, and records management functions.
- Works in partnership with senior management to develop budgets and effective business practices and procedures and determines space and equipment needs.
- Oversees facilities management by coordinating with appropriate individuals across campus.
- Oversees development and implementation of an office-wide intranet of centralized information, and policy and procedure sources for use by division staff.

Required Qualifications:

- MBA or equivalent degree and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in financial/personnel management (or related field) for complex organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities, and complex projects.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems at both a strategic and functional level.
- Commitment to organizational values, and to the Virginia Tech Principles of Community.
- Excellent documentation, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Management experience with complex information systems in support of a development program.
- Experience in strategic planning and policy development required.
- Demonstrated experience supervising large staff in different areas of expertise required.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, summarize, and present financial information clearly.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Demonstrated understanding of the mission of a land-grant university.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Virginia Tech financial and personnel policies and procedures and related enterprise systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group and an observed commitment to the core values of Virginia Tech.
