Position Summary:

This fall Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) will be launching the brand new Student Organization Resource Center, located in the BreakZone. Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) is looking for exceptional Hokies to serve as Engagement Ambassadors for the 2017-2018 academic year. Engagement Ambassadors are tasked to help fellow Hokies find their community through peer mentorship and student organization membership. Additionally, Engagement Ambassadors will support student leaders as they identify ways to help their organization thrive at Virginia Tech through the utilization of SECL resources. These goals will be accomplished through peer advising, workshop facilitation, and managing the resource center. Preference will be given to applicants who are involved on-campus and familiar with GobblerConnect.

The Engagement Ambassador position splits into three focus areas. Based on a combination of interviews, training, and ranking preference, successful candidates will be placed into one or more of the following focus areas:

• Peer Engagement Advisor (PEA). The PEA helps students explore involvement opportunities at Virginia Tech. Ambassadors in this position will use social media and other digital platforms to ensure that students are engaged with events and organizations offering one-on-one conversations and group sessions about.

• Leadership Educator. The Leadership Educator will educate student leaders and organizations on how to run effectively by facilitating workshops and trainings, providing organization coaching sessions, and building a resource database.

• Connection Specialist. The Connection Specialist will help student organizations make the most out their GobblerConnect membership. Ambassadors in this position will also help audit and update GobblerConnect to provide a more accurate engagement experience. Connection Specialists may also provide insight on forming Google sites and how to connection your organization to students, other organizations, and the VT community.

Primary Tasks & Opportunities

• Provide student leaders with insight on available resources and student organizations
• Provide support to existing clubs and organizations as well as to students looking to start a new organization
• Contribute to a digital organization resource database
• Help students navigate GobblerConnect and Google sites
• Track usage of resource center and keep the resource center clean and organized
• Manage organization print center cards and other inventory
• Work with SECL team on special events and marketing
• Serve as a peer mentor to students seeking involvement opportunities at VT
• Create new strategies to help students become involved on campus

Other Duties
• Answer phones and provide high quality customer service
• Assist with various administrative tasks
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Active membership and in good standing with an RSO, UCSO, and/or USLP and general understanding of the student organization registration process
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Willingness to work independently and within a team
• Ability to work Monday-Friday, hours will vary. Occasional weekends.
• At least 12 credit hours earned at Virginia Tech
• Availability for Engagement Ambassador Training

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a professional environment
• Knowledge of and comfortability with GobblerConnect and Microsoft Office Suite
