Position Summary:

Provides human resources and business operations support the DSA Human Resources office. Responsible for the business operations and human resource needs of 3000+ faculty, classified/university, non-student and wage employees in the Division of Student Affairs (DSA). Responsible for Advice and Counsel on AP Faculty Recruitment including process, advertising, candidate liaison program, and training that is needed. Assist with Class and Comp transactions by advising employees on process, completing required HR paperwork, assisting with updating and routing position descriptions, obtaining senior management signatures and sharing signed electronic copies with Senior Management. In addition, responsible for pay action letters related to merit increases, in-band adjustments, promotions, change of duties and role changes. Assist with review of probationary reviews, status reports for Performance Management as well as any system issues with online Performance Management systems for AP Faculty and Staff performance evaluation tools. Assist with assigning Supervisor/Reviewer and system access and approvals for Leave system, Performance Management systems and People Admin. Assist with documentation and notes for Employee Relations cases. Responsible for communicating to separating employees about exit Interviews. Assist with exit Interviews when needed. Assist with placing University Service Students. Responsible for updating all DSA organizational charts in SharePoint. Assist with maintaining and updating listservs. Keeps DSA HR SharePoint site up to date. Assist and backup for Senior HR Generalist when needed.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Organizational Psychology, Business and/or equivalent related experience. Previous progressive Administrative and/or Human Resources experience. Good working knowledge of Human Resource Management principles and practices to include staffing, recruitment, screening, and employment, practice and policy interpretation.

Previous employment and staffing experience. Previous experience working with payroll, salary administration and/or accounting type work. Previous experience working in a Human Resources office in a professional setting. Exceptional interpersonal skills; excellent organizational skills; and demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision. Able to use strong editing and proofreading skills. Able to produce accurate and auditable records. Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of competing demands.

Strong customer service experience in an academic or professional office environment. Ability to communicate in a professional and courteous manner. Previous HR professional experience in an office setting. Must be detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills. Must be proficient with computers and software applications such as Windows and Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstated experience handling sensitive and confidential information. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a team setting. Demonstrates initiative in completing tasks and solving problems. Experience working in a fast-paced office environment. Ability to maintain composure while managing workload with competing demands. Able to interact respectfully and comfortably with all individuals in a diverse, multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

SHRM-CP, PHR and/or SPHR certification desired. Familiarity with SharePoint, Banner, PeopleAdmin, Visio, Hokie Mart, or similar software applications. Experience working in a large enterprise environment.
