Position Summary:

The Immigration and Advising Assistant reports to the Assistant Director for Immigration and Advising and provides administrative and immigration-related support for the Immigration and Advising unit within Cranwell International Center.

General Administration (40%)
- Provide general administrative support to the Immigration & Advising unit within Cranwell International Center
- Contribute to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual for the Immigration & Advising unit
- Assist in the development of point-of-service assessment tools and an annual satisfaction survey to gather feedback from the international student population
- Serve as back-up for the front desk, assisting with office visitors, emails, phone calls, and intake of various immigration request forms (until all requests are set up to be submitted online via Sunapsis)

Immigration Support Services (40%)
- Work closely with the Assistant Director for Immigration & Advising to assist with the ongoing implementation/operationalization of the new enterprise software system (Sunapsis) for immigration compliance and international student services and support
- Organize and manage international student records in Sunapsis
- Assist with data collection and clean-up
- Engage in training (internally and through resources provided by the US Department of Homeland Security) to assume some basic duties as a Designated School Official (DSO), including access to the DHS Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)

Communications (10%)
- Assist with the development of bi-weekly/monthly immigration newsletters and e-communications to international students.
- Manage Immigration & Advising web content updates
- Assist in the development of online educational content (including video workshops on various immigration processes) to be deployed on Canvas and/or other university platforms

Special Projects (10%)
- Work closely with the Assistant Director for Immigration & Advising on other special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, education, public administration, international/intercultural studies, or a related field
- Demonstrated customer service experience
- Ability to work independently and handle sensitive material and information
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills to interact comfortably and respectfully with faculty, staff, and students of a diverse cultural background
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Adobe, and other basic office software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in a higher education setting
- Understanding of F-1 visa regulations
- Experience utilizing social media
- Experience studying, living, or working abroad
- Fluency in a foreign language
- Working knowledge of Virginia Tech policies and procedures
