Position Summary:

As a fully competent Postdoctoral Associate in all conventional aspects of the subject matter of the functional area of the assignments, plans and conducts work requiring judgment with in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Duties and responsibilities: Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed tasks of the identified phase as part of major projects. Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features. Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of and practices of related specialties. Supporting the organization and execution of research projects; designing and organizing the instrumentation of pavement sections and supervising the data collection; designing and conducting laboratory and field experiments; developing analytical and numerical models of pavement structures; modeling the life-cycle of civil infrastructure assets; preparing technical proposals; writing technical reports and papers; supervising and support graduate student work; and preparing and delivering technical presentations. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

Directions given and received:
Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.

Required Qualifications:

-PhD degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or related field, with prior experience required.
-Demonstrated research experience on pavement life cycle cost analysis (LCCA).
-Demonstrated research experience on pavement life cycle environmental assessment (LCA).
-Demonstrated experience on the development of tools for LCCA, LCA, and sustainability rating.
-Experience with multi-objective decision modeling for supporting asset management decisions.
-Experience with climate change adaptation measures for road infrastructure.
-Practical knowledge of optimization tools and optimization software development.
-Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
-Strong record of peer-reviewed publications.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience in conducting sustainability assessment of transportation infrastructure.
-Practical knowledge of vehicle emission modeling tools, traffic modeling and statistical analysis software.
-Practical knowledge of pavement analysis and design software.
-Experience with research projects that require international collaboration.
-Experience interacting with graduate students and supporting class instruction
