Position Summary:

The Educational Research and Evaluation Program (EDRE) in the School of Education at Virginia Tech is seeking applicants for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor, with a starting date of August 10, 2017. The term of appointment is one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Summer teaching is also a possibility. The successful applicant will teach three foundation level graduate courses in educational research each term. These may vary but are likely to include introduction to quantitative research methods in education, regression, multivariate methods, and/or structural equation modeling. Some of these courses will be delivered online. The successful candidate is expected to serve on examining committees, maintain office hours, participate in program meetings, and to commit some time to service responsibilities for the EDRE program and the School of Education.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in educational or psychological research or in a related field that involves advanced coursework in quantitative research methods. Candidates must have prior university teaching experience. Experience or knowledge of quantitative research methods, such as multiple regression, structural equation modeling and multivariate statistics is required. ABDs with relevant teaching experience may be considered. Experience using SPSS and ability to use it as a teaching tool is required, as is evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills, and a strong interest in teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience serving as a member of graduate committees, teaching on-line, knowledge or experience working in educational evaluation or assessment would be beneficial.
