Position Summary:

The assistant director is a full-time administrative position designed to support the continued integration and advancement of recruitment, student success, and career development, and is a key member of the Office of VT-Shaped Learning in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, a diverse organization that includes over 3,800 students in 29 majors. This position will work with the Assistant Dean to implement strategic vision for VT shaped learning initiatives and recruitment of incoming students. Responsibilities include coordinating programming for experiential learning including undergraduate research, study abroad, and mentoring initiatives, supporting recruitment events and daily information sessions, writing content and designing promotional materials.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent training and/or experience.
- Experience such as student recruitment and experiential learning.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to supervise students.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work independently without excessive supervision or follow up.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends and the ability to travel, sometimes on extended trips.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Working knowledge of career development initiatives for undergraduate students.
- Knowledge of liberal arts and human sciences academic programs.
- Experience in project management for undergraduate research, study abroad, internships, or mentoring.
- Experience such as using Adobe Suite in multimedia and print design.
- Experience developing content for the web and social media campaigns.
