Position Summary:

The Virginia Tech Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is searching for a postdoctoral associate in the area of engineering education who has a background in electrical or computer engineering. The postdoc will be supported by the Bradley endowment, which requires US citizenship. The postdoc will be partnered with a faculty mentor who is affiliated with the ECE department’s NSF Revolutionizing Engineering Departments (RED) grant. Candidates from underrepresented minority groups are encouraged to apply and also those people who are interested in pursuing a career in academia. The salary for this position is very competitive.

Responsibilities:
The postdoctoral associate will be expected to participate in research grant meetings and monthly ECE faculty meetings, and to interact productively with graduate and undergraduate students under the advisement of their ECE faculty mentor. The postdoc will be expected to work in support of the goals of the RED grant, including participating in the course and curriculum approval process, conducting research on departmental culture change, developing course materials, and assisting with faculty professional development. The postdoc will be expected to teach at least one ECE undergraduate course/year and will receive teaching mentorship from the faculty. Planning and participating in K-12 student outreach to local and state communities is expected. The postdoctoral associate will also be expected to make presentations regarding his/her research, to publish the original results of research in high-impact journals or conferences, and to participate in grant proposal preparation.

Required Qualifications:

The required qualification is a PhD in Engineering Education, Education or the Social Sciences, with a BS or MS degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering. Desirable characteristics include a strong interest in teaching, as well as good interpersonal and communication skills, effective work habits, and the ability to work as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred postdoctoral associate shall have a recent Ph.D. in Engineering Education, with a BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering and have published in peer-reviewed publications or respected conferences as their sub-discipline emphasizes.
