Position Summary:

Safe Ride Operator transports faculty, staff, students, and visitors in a passenger van in accordance with all motor vehicle laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and supports the University Police Department with its mission to provide a safe environment to all students, faculty/staff and visitors. The safe ride operator assists individuals with disabilities as needed, and is responsible for fueling van.
MULTIPLE POSITIONS AVAILABLE.

Required Qualifications:

- Possession of a valid operator’s license with a safe driving history.
- Must pass a thorough criminal history and driving history check.
- Must successfully complete the department’s driver training and testing.
- Must possess the ability to: follow instructions; use independent judgment and exercise considerable restraint under stressful situations; keep written records and logs; understand University Police Department rules and regulations.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner along with operating in adverse weather conditions during the night hours.
- Requires work during nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Previous experience operating a large passenger van.
- Previous experience with two-way radio communications.
- Familiarity with the Virginia Tech Campus.

This position is designated safety sensitive. Candidates for employment are required to have a criminal history check, including fingerprinting and a pre-employment drug screen. Incumbents are subject to random, reasonable suspicion and post accident drug and alcohol screening.
Must undergo an extensive background check and credit history check, with satisfactory results.
Must have valid driver’s license.
