Position Summary:

The Biocomplexity Institute has an opening for a Full Stack Developer in our Network Dynamics and Simulation Science Laboratory (NDSSL). This is a developer-centric role that will actively engage to implement and maintain the components making up various web-based applications, including middleware layers and end-user interfaces. The Developer will work with a team of software developers, engineers, system and application administrators to design and build solutions to support research within the NDSSL. The Developer will also assist with consultation and modification of any and all web-based tools used at NDSSL.

This position will serve as a website, backend service and database developer. Works independently on both small and large development projects. Project work will involve the creation of new as well as modification of existing data systems using Node.js, JavaScript, Java, Python, and related frameworks. Provides server system administration, general information technology (IT) support, and will assist in helping with security and recovery mechanisms.

In accordance with university policy for all non-student positions, this position will require a conviction check.

Required Qualifications:

-Experience with the entire stack – web servers, the application layer, caching, databases.
-Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing web services
-Expertise with web security and authentication middleware
-Experience developing software with modern web frameworks (e.g. Node.js, GIT)
-Experience with UNIX, server-side applications, the client-server model
-Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment
-Strong organizational and communications skills
-Understanding and implementation of security and data protection.
-Advanced knowledge of one or more core code languages, such as Java, JavaScript, Python, C#, etc. Strong grasp
of object-oriented programming concepts and implementation.
-Strong DB experience with a major RDBMS such as Postgres, MS SQL, MySQL, Oracle, etc. writing and debugging
queries, stored procedures and views.
-A solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and system design.

Preferred Qualifications:

-BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
-Demonstrated experience using modern development and design methodologies in one or
more programming language
-Experience in test-driven development practices
-Experience with server and browser development and automation using NPM, Grunt or Gulp
-Experience with systems integration strategies and patterns, such as REST/SOAP web services,
messaging, direct SQL/LDAP
-Experience with cloud computing (AWS)
-Expertise in web development using HTML5 and CSS3
-Experience with container-based virtualization development (e.g. Docker, ECS)
-Experience with cloud message APIs and usage of push notifications.
