Position Summary:

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking an Associate Farrier. This position will provide ambulatory (on the farm) farrier services to clients within the College’s practice area. The successful applicant will also provide backup coverage for, and assistance to the in-house farrier service as needed. This position will also require contribution to the instructional efforts of the service, specifically to farrier students, veterinary students, veterinarians, horse owners, and other farriers. Positive interaction with students, local and regional farriers, horse owners, and veterinarians is mandatory. Exercising professional discretion and judgment is expected, as well as professional initiative in carrying out the associate’s primary roles and assignments.

Required Qualifications:

-Certified Farrier distinction from the American Farrier’s Association
-Successfully completed a farrier training program (or equivalent experience)
-Demonstrated ability to work in a team oriented, fast paced teaching environment
-Ability to communicate effectively
-HS Diploma or equivalent
-Rabies prophylaxis is required and will be provided by employer.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Bachelors degree in related field
-Have a minimum of 24 months of experience or training
-Certified Journeyman Farrier distinction from the American Farrier’s Association

This position may be considered essential and required report to work during emergency and inclement weather closings. Rabies prophylaxis is required and will be provided by employer.
