Position Summary:

This position reports to the Assistant Director for Immigration and Advising and works to ensure the university’s compliance with federal regulations governing the enrollment of international students and exchange visitors. Provides immigration and advising assistance to international students and exchange visitors, applying highly specialized knowledge of immigration regulations and academic policies and procedures. Assists the Assistant Director for Immigration and Advising with planning, coordinating, and implementing strategies for data management required by the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), while maintaining the integrity of all relevant systems on campus. Contributes to the articulation of departmental immigration policies and procedures. Liaises with state and federal agencies such as the SEVP, SSA, and DMV. Makes informed and independent decisions about eligibility for immigration benefits. Functions as a Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer as recognized by the US Department of Homeland Security and US Department of State respectively. Serves as department liaison to certain administrative units on campus.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or related experience. Significant previous experience with understanding, interpreting, and applying federal immigration laws and regulations; demonstrated experience in exercising discretion and independent judgment in making informed decisions in complex situations; experience working with complex organizational processes and procedures; demonstrated aptitude for learning, interpreting, and disseminating highly technical information, regulations, and procedures; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; demonstrated strong interpersonal communications skills with previous experience working effectively with cross-cultural communication; ability to identify objectives and plan programs/activities to meet these objectives; demonstrated ability to provide advising and presentations; ability to work as a member of a team and interact with a diverse university community; ability to work well under pressure and balance competing priorities with frequent interruptions; working knowledge of MS Office Suite, or similar, and data management software; demonstrated proficiency in usage of SEVIS real-time interface; eligibility for DHS/DOS authorizations as a DSO/ARO.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree preferred. Knowledge of university policies and procedures; demonstrated proficiency in SEVIS batch processing and/or innovative technological solutions to immigration service provision.
