Position Summary:

The Office of Sponsored Programs, a unit within the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, has an opening for a part-time Compliance Specialist.

The Compliance Specialist is a member of the Compliance Team in the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP). The Compliance Team, provides quality assurance through continuous monitoring of financial transactions charged to sponsored research projects, to ensure that the expenditures are in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and sponsor and university policies and guidelines.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Review and verify that expenditures posted to sponsored project funds comply with the applicable laws, regulations, policies and guidelines.
- Identify expenditures that might be out of compliance and collaborate with OSP personnel and with the respective department personnel to take appropriate corrective action.
- Generate and organize the daily Labor Redistribution report documentation for salary transfers.
- Assist with review and data entry of the Personnel Activity reports.
- Assist the compliance team with other activities as required.

Required Qualifications:

Associate’s degree or equivalent level of training and/or experience in business, accounting or related field
Experience in basic bookkeeping/accounting practices.
Experience using spreadsheets or in data entry.
Demonstrated ability to work to a high degree of accuracy with detailed information.
Good communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field.
Experience with administration of federal research grants and contracts.
Knowledge of Virginia Tech’s accounting and administrative policies and procedures.
Previous experience providing programmatic support in a professional office environment.
