Position Summary:

Reporting to an Assistant Director of Advising, the Academic Advisor serves as a full-time (calendar year) administrative/professional faculty member in the Pamplin College of Business. The major areas of responsibility include academic advising for undergraduate students in all seven business majors (75%) and serving as the Assurance of Learning (AOL) coordinator for the college (20%). Additional job duties may include new student orientation, department liaison tasks, and assisting colleagues as needed (5%).
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide academic advising services to approximately 400 undergraduate students
- Deliver accurate information and advice to students about majors, minors, course options, study abroad, transfer credits, and extracurricular activities
- Assist students in developing a comprehensive educational plan
- Initiate academic intervention for students in academic difficulty
- Serve as the Assurance of Learning (AOL) coordinator
- Plan and implement four learning assessments throughout the academic year
- Collect, analyze, and report assessment results to the college and the university Office of Assessment and Evaluation
- Serve as the liaison to the Office of Assessment and Evaluation

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the liaison to assigned department(s)
- Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

Position requires Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with previous academic advising experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computational skills, as well as a service-oriented attitude. Professional demeanor and team attitude a must. Excellent computer skills, including Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, Windows and Office/Outlook/Banner.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants with degrees in business, business-related fields, and/or experience in higher education. Additionally, academic advising experience in a higher educational setting. Familiarity with student information systems, preferably BANNER. Member of NACADA or like professional organization.
