Position Summary:

Program Support Technician Senior provides confidential and comprehensive administrative and executive assistance to the Chair of the Department of Chemistry to ensure efficient office operations. This position serves as a principal liaison for all on and off-campus individuals with whom this office works, such as faculty members, the College of Science administration, members of the Department of Chemistry Advisory Committee (DCAC), students, and alumni. Under the guidance of the Chair, manages daily workflow, coordinating and scheduling both internal and external meetings and events (e.g., twice-yearly DCAC meetings, department seminar program, faculty candidate interviews, etc.), maintaining calendar, making travel arrangements as needed, and coordinating/managing events. For some of these events, occasional after-hour duties are to be expected.

Organizes and manages the Department of Chemistry’s marketing and media efforts to include: (1) independently maintaining Chemistry’s website and Facebook page by interfacing directly with all chemistry faculty for content of news stories; (2) canvassing a variety of sources for possible news stories; (3) creating digital signage postings based on available news; (4) writing new content for Chemistry’s 12 – 16 page “Elements” newsletter (published twice a year) and editing all contributed content, which requires interacting on an independent basis with Chemistry faculty, staff, students, and alumni in the development of new stories; (5) assisting in the development of the department’s annual report.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in business, English, communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
- Administrative office experience in an academic or professional office setting with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Experience working with content management systems and an HTML-based web design.
- Knowledge of best practices in social media and experience using and managing content on social media outlets
- Proficiency using software such as Microsoft Office Suite and a desktop publishing program such as Adobe Creative Suite to include InDesign, Captivate, Photoshop, and illustrator.
- Excellent communication, writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with experience such as writing and editing reports, informational literature, and news articles.
- A commitment to customer service and strong interpersonal skills for positive external communications and interactions with various levels of both internal and external clients.
- Ability to work independently and on a team on multiple projects, often involving deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Office management experience.
- Experience using Banner Software System or relational databases.
- Experience working in development or fundraising.
- Experience interacting with senior administrators and high-profile individuals.
- Experience working with faculty in an academic setting.
- Understanding of web development tools and best practices.
- Experience doing live video streaming of events.
- Experience in higher education, public relations, advertising, and/or marketing.
