|Working Title:||Postdoctoral Associate|
|Faculty Rank:||Postdoctoral Associate|
|About Virginia Tech:||
Virginia Tech is a public land-grant university, committed to teaching and learning, research, and outreach to the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world. Building on its motto of Ut Prosim (that I may serve), Virginia Tech is dedicated to InclusiveVT—serving in the spirit of community, diversity, and excellence. We seek candidates who adopt and practice the Principles of Community, which are fundamental to our on-going efforts to increase access and inclusion, and to create a community that nurtures learning and growth for all of its members. Virginia Tech actively seeks a broad spectrum of candidates to join our community in preparing leaders for the world.
The Hauf Lab at Virginia Tech is looking for up to three highly motivated Postdoctoral Associates in the technical areas of molecular biology, biochemistry and quantitative cell biology. The laboratory works on exciting projects that address the molecular basis of reliable cell division using fission yeast as model organism. We are looking for ambitious, creative and smart colleagues, whose experience enriches our team.
One position focuses on the role of ubiquitination in establishing order in mitotic exit. The project will involve biochemical techniques (protein purification, in vitro assays, pull-downs, immunoblots, etc.) as well as cell biological methods (yeast molecular genetics and live-cell imaging). An ideal candidate for this position will have strong expertise in biochemistry.
The second position focuses on the identification of mechanisms that ensure the proper timing of mitotic events. This project will extensively rely on yeast molecular genetics, high-end live cell imaging, and will involve close collaboration with computational biologists. Candidates should have strong expertise in imaging and image analysis.
The third position focuses on the dissection of the gene expression network underlying mitotic checkpoint signaling. Ideal candidates for this position will have considerable experience in molecular biology. Additional techniques will include CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome engineering, single-molecule mRNA FISH as well as quantitative fluorescence microscopy.
Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, biology, or a related field; at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal; demonstrated expertise in at least one of the fields of interest (molecular biology, biochemistry, quantitative cell biology); demonstrated ability to design and troubleshoot experiments; knowledge of the literature in prior fields of study; very good organizational skills and time management; prior experience in supervising others; good communication skills, and the ability to work in a team.
Experience in working with yeast; experience in coding or bioinformatics; demonstrated experience in writing publications.
