MRI Research Technologist

The Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute – Montague Lab has an immediate opening for a MRI Research Technologist. Working under the supervision of the Director, the MRI Research Technologist oversees and manages daily research activities related to the MRI facilities. This position helps create a collaborative environment by integrating research and education. Research participants are thoroughly instructed and educated regarding specific fMRI procedures while images are evaluated for highest quality and completeness. The ideal candidate will work independently in a fast paced environment possessing strong attention to detail skills and an ability to learn new technical and operational processes. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed imaging for diagnosis.

Among others, responsibilities include: operating and managing use of MRI machines to carry out fMRI research protocols, assisting research investigators with fMRI and behavioral research experiments, supervising volunteers, MRI scanner users and other support personnel and recruiting participants and monitoring enrollment numbers according to protocols.

Required Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s degree in engineering, psychology, biology, neuroscience or related field or equivalent education and experience.
-Demonstrated knowledge of basic principles of fMRI or other human neuroscience research methods.
-Demonstrated knowledge of computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
-Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team with the ability to work independently and accurately in a fast paced environment.
-Must demonstrate an ability to learn new technical and operational processes and adapt well to changes.
-Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills with strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of organization, planning, records management and general administration.
-Demonstrated communication skills.
-Demonstrated ability to follow instructions.
-Previous research experience.
