Position Summary:

The Digital Gifts Officer (DGO) will assist the Director of Annual Giving in carrying out the designated duties and responsibilities for the university’s annual giving program focusing on long-term, multi-year objectives for growing revenue and alumni participation. The Digital Gifts Officer is responsible for developing and creating online fundraising efforts and strategies that engage new donors, renew past donors, and upgrade current donors. These efforts include developing and delivering fundraising campaigns using online channels such as email, crowdfunding, social media and more.

The Digital Gifts Officer will play a key role in the ongoing strategic sourcing for crowdfunding projects focusing on those with a built-in audience, realistic funding goals, and with a specific deadline and sense of urgency that align with the university’s goals and priorities. Additionally, the DGO will develop, manage, and execute the long-range strategic marketing plan and annual tactical initiatives to promote annual giving to the alumni community through other social, online, and university media outlets. The DGO collaborates with other marketing professionals in University Relations to produce relevant copy and stories for VT websites and electronic newsletters and brings forward ideas from specific crowdfunding and other annual giving campaign initiatives to share with targeted audience segments.

The DGO will both work with crowdfunding project team leaders and project collaborators to support selected projects, and will also conduct one-on-one personal solicitations of both donors and volunteers, leveraging telephone, email, and digital or social media outreach to solicit annual gifts in the range of $1,000 to $10,000. Additionally, the DGO will:

Have a portfolio of 300+ prospects.

Close $300,000 per year using a three-year rolling average.

Generate and circulate reports to track and analyze progress towards fundraising goals on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and fundraising experience, or master’s degree.

Individuals should demonstrate professionalism, with strong communication skills, and be capable of motivating volunteers as well as donors.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and have the ability to work as a team member in a complex organization.

Experience working in development, web/digital fundraising, alumni relations, volunteer management or related experience.

Superb writing skills and attention to detail are both necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience in fundraising or similar experience at a university or other comparable organization, or equivalent professional experience in sales, marketing, training, or public relations.

Experience in digital and print content strategy and development.

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator).

Experience with relational database CRM systems such as Blackbaud CRM.

Experience in a higher education environment.

Regional and national travel required for the purposes of conducting field research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, which may include overnights and weekends. Must have the ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation.
