Position Summary:

Virginia Tech’s Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research (CIDER) has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral faculty position. Reporting to the Assistant Provost and CIDER Director, this position is responsible for developing signature programs in support of the university’s emerging profile in terms of Destination Areas (DAs) and Strategic Growth Areas (SGAs; As part of these initiatives, the postdoctoral associate will work with Honors College faculty; faculty from the DAs and SGAs; and, the Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research (CIDER). Responsibilities include (1) contributing to instruction and curriculum development in the Honors College, specifically in the College’s Innovation and Discovery Studios; (2) supporting undergraduate research opportunities for honors students; (3) working collaboratively with DA, SGA and CIDER faculty to develop and evaluate cross-disciplinary educational opportunities for honors students; and, (4) working collaboratively with the DA, SGA, and CIDER faculty planning to scale successful pilot initiatives for the larger student body. Applicants should be competent in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and possess thorough theoretical and conceptual knowledge in the intersection of design and policy. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out their own research agenda within this broad area and to undertake research and analysis, write research reports, prepare presentations, and collaborate on publications related to signature programs and curricular innovations.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in a social science discipline.
• Expertise in intersection in design, environmental and urban policy.
• A strong record of academic accomplishments.
• Strong work habits and the ability to work independently as well as within a collaborative team.
• Excellent communication and written skills.
• Experience with and commitment to interdisciplinary research and instruction.
• Evidence of developing publications based on collaborative team research.
• A commitment and sensitivity to issues of diversity in the university community.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Teaching experience in a Research I institution.
• Demonstrated commitment to community engagement.
• Experience with project design, implementation and management.
• Experience with evaluation projects.
