Position Summary:

Responsible for the development and maintenance of web applications for the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine throughout the entire development life cycle, including: assisting with user project requests; defining detailed project specifications; assisting management with understanding business value, need, and resource impact; utilizing project management standards and methods to deliver products on time and of high quality; providing both in-house and end-user documentation; and providing support and updates on a timely basis. Responsible for the daily maintenance and support of the College’s Intranet web site and related applications, including managing the associated support ticket queues in the IT department’s ticketing system. Position is expected to assist in an advisory role, when needed, as a technology subject matter expert in order to help the College better make decisions related to IT.

Required Qualifications:

Strong organizational, communications, and leadership skills; demonstrated understanding of the software development life cycle; advanced knowledge of the ASP.NET web application architecture on the IIS platform using C# and VB.NET languages, demonstrated ability to develop web content with modern technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript; demonstrated ability to manage and develop with Microsoft SQL Server databases; ability to communicate effectively with customers and work professionally and courteously in a stressful environment; good interpersonal, customer support, verbal, and technical writing skills; ability to work independently, effectively prioritize and execute tasks without supervision, and manage multiple simultaneous tasks and projects; willingness and ability to document knowledge and share with others; understanding of project management principles and exhibits excellent planning skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent training and experience; experience supporting comprehensive, complex web applications; working knowledge of advanced web development technologies such as jQuery, AJAX, responsive design and related frameworks, ALM and/or source control using Team Foundation Server, ASP.NET Identity, and identity providers such as CAS or Shibboleth; proficient with scripting technologies such as PowerShell; experience with web multimedia technologies and related tools; experience developing within the Microsoft Office ecosystem (e.g. VBA for Excel); experience developing for and supporting Microsoft SharePoint environments; advanced knowledge and/or experience with Agile methodologies for application development; experience with the University’s policies, procedures, and systems.
