|Working Title:||Assistant Professor of Practice|
|Faculty Rank:||Professor of Practice|
|About Virginia Tech:||
Virginia Tech is a public land-grant university, committed to teaching and learning, research, and outreach to the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world. Building on its motto of Ut Prosim (that I may serve), Virginia Tech is dedicated to InclusiveVT—serving in the spirit of community, diversity, and excellence. We seek candidates who adopt and practice the Principles of Community, which are fundamental to our on-going efforts to increase access and inclusion, and to create a community that nurtures learning and growth for all of its members. Virginia Tech actively seeks a broad spectrum of candidates to join our community in preparing leaders for the world.
The Business Information Technology department seeks to fill one or more non-tenure track positions to begin August 10, 2017. The position will be responsible for teaching 18-24 credit hours of courses per academic year. The Business Information Technology major includes degree options in Decision Support Systems (DSS) and Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSM). Candidates should have an appropriate academic and/or professional background and expertise to teach courses in quantitative methods and one (or both) of these two degree options. While professor of practice faculty members may conduct research and present their findings in professional or academic venues there are no expectations for an extensive research program as with a tenure-track faculty appointment. However, they are expected to be able to understand and evaluate the research that applies to their field and to teach it to students. Professor of practice faculty members are expected to remain active in their professions in ways that contribute to their assignment —teaching, consulting or outreach, serving in technical and professional societies and associations, and similar activities. They may also be expected to engage in departmental, college, and university service activities. Further, professor of practice faculty members are expected to maintain AACSB status as either Instructional Practitioner, Scholarly Practitioner, Practice Academic or Scholarly Academic. The professor of practice is a non-tenure-track position, and appointment is renewable only on an annual basis. The position is not intended for tenure transfer but advancement in rank is achievable.
Qualifications include a graduate degree (i.e., a master’s degree or higher) in a field that incorporates quantitative methods. Evidence of prior teaching experience and ability is considered a positive attribute; a successful candidate must be deemed an effective teacher at the undergraduate level. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
The preferred candidate will have teaching experience, and industry experience.
