Position Summary:

We invite applications for a postdoctoral associate position in Condensed Matter Theory in the Physics Department of Virginia Tech. The focus of the position is on Quantum Control and Quantum Computing and related technologies, particularly spin-based implementations. The successful candidate will work on analytical and numerical models and on designs of quantum protocols and quantum gates for solid-state Quantum Computing. The position includes many opportunities for travel both to present in conferences and to collaborate, nationally and internationally. There will be opportunities for collaboration with leading experimentalists in the field.

Required Qualifications:

The successful applicant must hold a Ph.D. in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics or Quantum Optics. A strong background in Quantum Mechanics is necessary and knowledge of concepts from Quantum Information or Quantum Computing is required.

  • Background in Quantum Information and/or Quantum Computing
  • Advanced knowledge of quantum mechanics
  • Experience with Mathematica and Matlab or other programming language
  • Ability to communicate research results effectively at professional meetings and conferences
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of theoretical condensed matter and semiconductor physics
  • Ability to work under limited supervision
