Position Summary:

The Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center (EMC) in Leesburg, Virginia, part of Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Equine Sports Medicine and Lameness to begin employment at the EMC in the spring/summer of 2017. This position is available as clinical or tenure track.
Located in affluent Northern Virginia, the EMC is in the heart of the mid-Atlantic region’s horse country, close to an abundant variety of cultural and outdoor activities, and exceptional school systems. Our team of specialists, board-certified by ACVS, ACVSMR, ACVIM, ACT and ABVP is committed to providing exceptional, comprehensive and compassionate veterinary care, being a valuable educational resource for referring veterinarians, future veterinarians and clients, and contributing to the advancement of new knowledge through innovative scholarship and clinical discovery.
Our caseload of more than 2,400 cases annually consists of horses of all breeds, ages and disciplines. There is a diverse mix of surgical and medical cases including: advanced specialty care, sports medicine, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, neonatology and emergency and critical care. We are extremely fortunate to serve conscientious clients and dedicated referring veterinarians.
The clinical activities of the EMC are supported by standing MRI (Hallmarq), computed tomography (Pegaso), digital radiography and ultrasonography, nuclear scintigraphy, fluoroscopy, high-speed treadmill, 2 OR suites, a 24-stall hospital, an 8-stall isolation building, a comprehensive regenerative medicine laboratory, a large technical staff including many licensed veterinary technicians, and a certified journeyman farrier.
The position to be filled is that of a full-time, clinical or tenure track faculty member. Candidates must have a DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree and be board-certified (or board-eligible) by ACVSMR, ACVS, ACVIM, ABVP, or certified by ISELP. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a clinical residency program and have demonstrated experience and expertise in lameness diagnosis, imaging, and podiatry in a busy clinical setting. Exceptional communication skills are essential.
The effort allocation of the position is heavily toward clinical service with up to 75% assignment to this activity depending on faculty rank and track. In this capacity the successful candidate will work closely with a newly established podiatry service at the center. Instruction (mainly on the clinic floor) is assigned to be at least ~15% and scholarly and non-assigned service activities to be at least ~10%. In the latter case the appointee will be expected to undertake innovative scholarship activities necessary to enhance the reputation and caseload of the sports medicine and podiatry services.
The successful appointee will join our faculty of 4 board-certified surgeons and 1 board-certified internist and will share in the clinical and didactic teaching of students in the veterinary curriculum, the training of interns and residents in their general and specialty emphasis areas, and mentoring of graduate students when appropriate.
