The Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute (VTCRI) represents a state of the art tier 1 research institute that houses many central core facilities. Currently, the VTCRI is looking for qualified candidates to fill a vacancy in the Flow Cytometry and Molecular Biology Core holding a Research Scientist rank. Requirements for this position include understanding and previous experience operating flow cytometers and cell sorters, and understanding of absolute quantification PCR techniques (droplet digital PCR) to assist scientists within the VTCRI in executing and interpreting their experiments. Additionally, knowledge of the flow cytometry software FlowJo is prefered.
The VTCRI is recruiting a Research Scientist that will be responsible for managing all aspects of the core including calendar coordination with VTCRI scientists, documentation of machine usage, performing standard maintence, and core-recovery billing. The successfully selected candidate is expected to have experience with care and use of flow cytometers and cell sorters including working with service representatives to ensure minimal downtime of core facilities. The candidate will also need to be able to analyze and interpret data to assist VTCRI faculty and staff with experimental design and data interpretation.
-Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
-Familiarity with Accuri C6 flow cytometer, Sony SH800 Cell sorter and BioRad ddPCR system.
